Happy Monday!
Happy Monday! I hope your week is off to a great start! This week I am featuring a couple of startup related articles, things in the Cambodian startup community seem to be taking off this year and I thought these might encourage some of you building, or thinking of building, a startup. I've also found 5 new funding opportunities for those of you working on #tech4good projects in SE Asia.
As part of a small self promotion, my startup Invoice Mouy, will launch this week into a invite beta. We've been hard at work at making sure our invoice system will allow Cambodian SMEs to easily invoice, track and receive payments. If you have some time, please sign up for our waiting list at: invoicemouy.com.
Thank you and as always if you have something you'd like me to share with this community, please send it my way!

Startup
We made it, they came, nobody retained. A startup failure story.
This is an interesting story of one startup founder, his journey, and the lessons learned from this failed startup. One thing he covers in this post that I think is important for anyone creating a product is the "Product Death Cycle". I'm always interested in these small startup stories, because while everyone would like a large successful startup, there are a lot of things we can learn from the small failures of others.
12 SaaS Application Ideas for a Profitable Product in 2021
In 2020, the cloud market and its most notable players, such as Google, Microsoft, Adobe, and Salesforce, cannot be taken lightly. Cloud software distribution, namely SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS models, invaded the technology world and will not go away any time soon. At the same time, the COVID-19 pandemic increased the importance of remote work for a business to survive, as well as high profitability.
That is why the demand for SaaS solutions that tend to be more cost-effective has risen markedly. And we believe that it is better to ride the SaaS wave now rather than regret missed opportunities later.
So we have prepared for you a list of SaaS product ideas that will be a great deal for cloud-based solutions for startups in 2021.

Staying ahead of the game: three concepts that can help peacebuilders work strategically with digital media
In the information age, successful peacebuilding efforts depend as much on the outcomes of boardroom mediation dialogues and signing of ceasefire and peace agreements as they do on how the achievement, purpose and conduct of peace is viewed by public opinion in the conflict context. Therefore, peacebuilders and those advocating for violence are constantly engaging in a struggle to win perceptions, and with the advent of the internet, this struggle is unfolding on digital media.
Twitter Shares New Insights into How Users are Planning for the Post-Pandemic Future [Infographic] | Social Media Today
The challenges of 2020 put many things on hold, with all of us pausing long-term plans, including holidays, promotions, major purchases, etc., in order to get through the worst of the pandemic, in the hopes that things will improve, and we can return to a level of normalcy.
Of course, we don't know when that return will be, with many things elements up in the air. The vaccine roll-out is now in full swing, but it could take years to be fully implemented. Offices are now re-opening, but many are still hesitant to come back full-time. Sporting events and in-real-life functions are now allowing some fans and patrons.
It remains a difficult and transitional time in many respects, but according to a new study conducted by Twitter, optimism, at least among Twitter users, is on the rise.

How Brands Creatively Hosted Virtual Offsite Meetings
As the world continues to move in a remote-first direction, it's important to consider how to make your company's in-person events remote-friendly.
Even if you don't always do remote events, the remote option is great for anytime your team is spread around the world.
But, a virtual offsite meeting? Sounds oxymoronic. How can you have an offsite, that doesn't feel like work, virtually?
In this post, we'll take a deep dive into how these brands thought about virtual offsites in a creative way. And didn't just ask everyone to be on Zoom for 8 hours.

Bounce Back Ideas
With vaccination and re-opening plans on the horizon, we are now facing our first year adapting to the COVID-19 pandemic. With the pandemic affecting retail, education, mental health, employment and many other sectors of society, our urgent challenge is to gain resilience from these challenges and “bounce back” in a way that is more inclusive. The Bounce Back Ideas Challenge is looking for innovative ideas to aid in COVID-19 social and economic recovery across nine distinct categories. Let’s Bounce Back together in 2021.
Women’s Economic Empowerment in the Mekong
A grant for up to $395,061 U.S. Dollars (USD) in FY 2020 Economic Support Funds (ESF) will be awarded (pending availability of funds) for work that will support women’s economic empowerment in the Mekong by providing financial literacy training and support to women seeking microinsurance to support women entrepreneurs' small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
UNESCO launches second call for partnerships of the Global Media Defence Fund
UNESCO is launching a new Call for Partnerships to support not-for-profit organizations under the Global Media Defence Fund. The initiative aims to join forces with specialized partners in the undertaking or upscaling of projects that bolster journalists’ legal protection and/or enhance media freedom. The indicative global envelope to be distributed under this Call is estimated at USD $1 million.
Water Toxicity Sensor Challenge
This Challenge is requesting new design solutions for biologically based sensors for use in water systems that can detect the activation of one or more human toxicity pathways. Toxicity pathways are the perturbations to normal biological processes that occur due to exposure to a stressor, such as a chemical, that has the potential to lead to adverse health effects. Although the sensor might not identify a specific contaminant/toxin, it should be able to measure or quantitate the level of activation of one or more toxicity pathways when the sensor is exposed to water that contains relevant amounts of contaminants/toxins targeting the pathway(s). The solution should be less costly, more efficient, and more rapid than current methods for water toxicity analysis. This Theoretical Challenge is Stage 1; there is the potential for Stage 2, which would consist of a Challenge to produce a prototype.
