The SCALA Hackathon 2023 – Asia and the Pacific
The Hackathon will be a 2-day virtual event hosted by the FAO-UNDP Support Programme on Scaling up Climate Ambition on Land Use and Agriculture through NDCs and NAPs (SCALA) on Friday, 3 February and Wednesday, 15 February 2023 with mentoring sessions during the week. You will be required to be available on both days.
The overarching objective of the SCALA Hackathon will be to find innovative digital and non-digital solutions that harness the power of technology to improve land use and agriculture sectors to achieve climate resilience and contribute towards climate adaptation goals in Asia and the Pacific countries’ climate plans, such as nationally determined contributions (NDCs) and National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Participants will be provided with case study challenges during the SCALA Hackathon Bootcamp. Applicants will be able to choose one case study and are expected to create digital or non-digital innovative solutions to address the challenge(s) identified in their chosen case study.
The Liveability Challenge (6th Edition) – Win up to S$2 million
The Liveability Challenge is looking for disruptive innovations that can establish a circular urban agriculture or aquaculture system, or alternative protein system. They are seeking innovative and breakthrough technological solutions to maximise production efficiency and minimise resource requirements.
The themes for 2023 are Climate change and Food & Nutrition.
Climate Change
They are looking for disruptive innovations that can decarbonise energy generation and industries, as well as capture and utilise carbon to create scalable products for global markets. They also want solutions that address ocean challenges including innovative models that restore and regenerate coastal and marine ecosystems in Southeast Asia.
Food & Nutrition
They are looking for disruptive innovations that can establish a circular urban agriculture or aquaculture system, or alternative protein system. They are seeking innovative and breakthrough technological solutions to maximise production efficiency and minimise resource requirements.
Young Global Changers Recoupling Awards
The Young Global Changers (YGC) are individuals with innovative ideas on how to make this world a better place. They must have developed a project or an initiative to turn these ideas into action.
The Young Global Changers program brings together these young people from around the world who are working towards a global paradigm shift, combining their talents and together becoming a strong voice for change.
With the Young Global Changers Recoupling Awards we want to recognize and reward youth-led projects and initiatives from around the world which embody this recoupling-approach.
Recoupling-projects must be guided by a people-centric approach, that puts the needs and voices of their stakeholders, customers and communities at the center. The jury will be looking for particularly novel, unique and original approaches or projects that address specific issues which have previously been neglected. Projects must be beyond the idea phase and can include social businesses as well as nonprofit activities.
UN Trust Fund to End Violence against Women (PDF)
The UN Trust Fund is seeking proposals for civil society-led initiatives to end violence against women and girls experiencing intersecting forms of discrimination in all contexts, including in and not limited to those working in protracted crises.
They prioritize applications that employ an intersectional approach and operationalize the principle of leaving no one behind in ending violence against women programming. They also prioritize applications from women’s rights organizations and local civil society organizations led by and for marginalized women and girls.
Applications are now open for Thailand Accelerator Program that aims to help startups with southeast asia ambition to grow and successfully fundraise rapidly amidst the global funding winter and economic instabilities.

Student Energy Fellowship 2023
The Student Energy Fellowship Program is designed for young people interested in and passionate about the energy transition who can commit to developing a project idea with a team or individually over 8 months.
As a multidisciplinary program, the Fellowship aims to help participants find their unique path towards accelerating the energy transition through the many possible career paths available today. They hope that Fellows will continue to use their skills, networks, and experiences from the program to continue accelerating the energy transition beyond the Fellowship.
The program consists of peer learning, project and leadership skills development, mentoring sessions, and networking with Fellows from around the world.
Kellogg-Morgan Stanley Sustainable Investing Challenge 2022
Applications are now open for the Kellogg-Morgan Stanley Sustainable Investing Challenge 2022 under the theme of Design a Creative Financial Solution for an Urgent Social or Environmental Problem.
The Kellogg-Morgan Stanley Sustainable Investing Challenge harnesses the power of capital markets and student creativity to create positive impact in a world of perpetual resource scarcity and continued population growth. A pitch competition for graduate students, the Challenge focuses on developing institutional-quality investment vehicles that seek positive environmental or social impact and competitive financial returns.
The Kellogg-Morgan Stanley Sustainable Investing Challenge seeks to identify the next generation of sustainable finance practitioners, connect emerging leaders with industry professionals and foster even greater emphasis on sustainability at graduate schools around the world.
Indonesia | Funding available through Public Diplomacy Small Grants Program
The U.S. Mission to Indonesia is pleased to announce that funding is available through its Public Diplomacy Small Grants Program.
The U.S. Embassy’s Public Affairs Section (PAS) in Jakarta invites proposals for projects that further and support the strategic partnership between Indonesia and the U.S. through educational, cultural, informational, and media programming that highlights shared values and promotes bilateral cooperation.
All programs must include an American cultural or media-related element, or a connection with American expert/s, organization/s, or institution/s in a specific field that will promote increased understanding of U.S. policy and perspectives.
Travel Grant Program (USD 1,200) for Southeast Asian Nationals
To reinforce the Center’s efforts and resources in accelerating transformation through agricultural innovation (ATTAIN) and become a leading enabler and champion of excellence in agricultural and rural development, SEARCA will provide travel grants of up to a maximum of USD 1,200 to each qualified agriculture and agriculture-related professional, social scientist, or graduate student in Southeast Asia.
Adapting to the changes brought about by COVID-19, SEARCA will be implementing a modified Travel Grants Program (STGP) starting fiscal year 2021-2022. SEARCA STGP will now be accepting applications for participation in scientific events held online in order to support continued scientific/intellectual discourse and information dissemination relevant to agriculture and rural development (ARD) in this time of new normal
